News: Rotherham artists need paint

By

ROAR (Rotherham Open Art's Renaissance) is appealing for local people and businesses to donate paint in order to finish work on new space for artists' studios in Rotherham town centre.

ROAR won £50,000 from The People's Millions Big Lottery in December to help redevelop the disused offices in Westgate Chambers, at the top of Corporation Street, into artists studios and community art space.

The launch date is set for November 30 but a little more help is needed to ensure all the work is finished and so ROAR is appealing to the local community to donate white paint.

Karen Sherwood, CEO of ROAR, said: "This is such a fabulous project and we only need such a small amount of extra help to see this project completed.

"We have large numbers of volunteers putting in a lot of time and effort to see this project succeed and if we can find a few more generous people to help in these final stages that would be the icing on the cake. Please help!"

There will be six artists' studios all with natural light, white walls and ceilings, wooden floors, broadband Wifi and separately metered electric supply. Each studio will have access to a communal kitchen, wet room, toilets and a reception gallery area. There will also be 24hr access with 24hr CCTV.

The centre will open 75% let and is self sustaining and independently run.
