News: Students take in JELD-WEN's manufacturing facility

By

JELD-WEN, the door manufacturing company, recently hosted a 15 students from Preston College who were given an insight into joinery production at their Woodhouse Mill factory.

The newly extended Rotherham factory, on the Sheffield border, includes a brand new production line and an advanced timber preservative treatment plant.

The visit started with a presentation about the company by Hannah Mansell, development manager and Steven Frank, group manager at JELD-WEN, followed by a tour of the treatment plant, moulded and veneer door production lines, plus the glazing area and distribution, before finally students were shown the finished product in the showroom.

Timothy Haworth, lecturer at Preston College, said: "This was a fascinating, in-depth insight into the door manufacturing process. It was really interesting to see the many different processes involved and to find out how much really does go into producing a door to meet modern performance requirements.

"This visit was really valuable to give our students a first hand experience of a real life working environment in which joinery products are manufactured."

Lucy Woodhead, communications manager for JELD-WEN, added: "We were pleased to host the visit by the Preston College carpentry and joinery students. We are keen to help educate the next generation of joiners and hope they found the visit worthwhile to help them in their studies and future career."
