News: Taxing issues at Chamber event

By

Barnsley & Rotherham Chamber of Commerce is hosting a free event in Rotherham this week guiding newly self-employed business people through key stages of dealing with tax issues.

The Chamber will host the event, which will be delivered through HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC), at its office on the High Street in Rotherham town centre on Wednesday November 28 between 10am and 1pm. The event is part of the Regional Enterprise Programme (REP), supported by ERDF.

The session will cover issues such as: registering a business with HMRC, tax and National Insurance Contribution liabilities, record keeping, tax returns and self assessment.

On December 6, a second free event will look at profit & loss, cash flows, tax, national insurance and VAT.

Gary Dunne, manager of the programme, said: "Tax doesn't have to be taxing and that is true of these sessions. HMRC will break down the barriers, dispel the myths and explain what to do, and how to do it, in easy-to-understand language with no jargon.

"Dealing with HMRC appears daunting for most businesses. Through these sessions, businesses will find how easy and approachable HMRC really are. Both sessions are essential for new and early start up businesses and have already been highly successful."

In addition, the Chamber is also hosting a series of free workshops offering an introduction to tendering starting on November 30 at its Genesis Park office in Templeborough, Rotherham.
