News: Martek goes the extra mile

By

Innovative Rotherham company, Martek Marine, has gone more than the extra mile to meet its customer's requirements.

The Manvers company is the world leader in safety and environmental monitoring equipment for commercial ships. Exporting to over 80 countries worldwide, the business is on course to achieve a £10m turnover for the 2012-2013 financial year (February 2013).

Its service engineer, Mick English, actually went beyond the call of duty making a 40-hour, 18,000 mile round trip to Malaysia to hand deliver spare parts to global ship management services giant, V.Ships.

Mick said: "We'd promised to get V.Ships their parts on time and the only way to do it was to do a hand-over at Kuala Lumpur. It was pretty exhausting, but worth it."

Last year Martek secured a deal with SeaCom Electronics, the UK subsidiary of V.Ships.

The initial order was for Navguard, Martek's bridge navigation watch and alarm system (BNWAS) and was expected to be followed by orders for further packages to be installed on V.Ships' vessels during the next three years.

Living up to its brand value of "taking ownership of customer's needs - going the extra mile" could prove lucrative for Martek - V.Ships is the world's largest supplier of ship management services to a fleet of over 1,000 vessels.

Mohammed Haque at V.Ships said: "It was the best service we've ever received!"
