News: New foundations at Dearne Valley College

Students can take the first step towards high level qualifications more easily with new part-time foundation degree courses at Dearne Valley College.

With its main campus in Manvers, Dearne Valley College currently offers higher education awards to around 180 students and recently signed a new partnership with Teesside University who will become the validating body for all part-time and full-time foundation degrees from the new academic year in September 2013.

The college will be offering part-time foundation degrees in a variety of sectors, including Sports, Public Services, Travel and Tourism and Early Childhood Studies, alongside a number of "Access to Higher Education" courses which will allow prospective learners to gain the skills and qualifications necessary to embark upon a degree course.

A part-time delivery means that students can work towards a high quality higher education qualification in a variety of subject areas, around their employment, hobbies and family, and any other commitments they may have. Students will also benefit from a team of industry-experienced tutors and dedicated higher education facilities too.

Andy Parkes, higher education manager at Dearne Valley College, said: "The College are excited to be able to offer our Higher Education qualifications on a part time basis, allowing individuals, who might not have considered this route due to prior commitments, the opportunity to progress and succeed.

"We are able to offer high level courses right on the doorsteps of local, prospective students and achieve the aim of making Higher Education accessible to all, and following the launch of our partnership with Teesside University, students can rest easy knowing that their higher education is of a high quality."

The college has also launched a new course guide, designed around the theme of "Enhance Your Skills" based on its part-time course provision. A vast range of industry-led courses on offer on a part-time basis, including Hairdressing, Beauty, Catering, Accountancy, Health and Social Care, Business and Management, IT and Computing, Sports, Construction, English and Maths, and many more.

The guide also includes a wealth of business training courses spanning a wide range of industries to up skill workforces.
