News: Deadline looms for Chamber awards

Local companies have just two weeks to submit their applications for this year's Barnsley and Rotherham Business Awards.

The Awards will recognise the achievements of the region's top businesses at Rotherham's Magna Science Adventure Centre on Friday October 18.


The ceremony will see up to 40 companies and individuals compete for ten prestigious awards and the much sought-after RBS Business of the Year trophy will be presented to the outstanding performers.

Entries are now being accepted for the following categories:

• The Source Most Promising Business Start-up Award
• The Begbies Traynor Business Growth Award
• The Rotherham Local Strategic Partnership Business Community Impact Award
• The Tata Steel Excellence in Manufacturing Award
• The Barnsley College Skills Development Award
• The Morrison Facility Services Innovation & Technology Award
• The Bull Information Systems Business Person of the Year Award
• The Solar Europa Environmental Business Award
• The ASD/Rotherham United FC Excellence in Export Award
• The Gala Tent Apprentice of the Year Award

Andrew Denniff, executive director at Barnsley & Rotherham Chamber of Commerce, said: "There is a real opportunity here for local businesses to profile their success and achievements in what has been a particularly difficult time. We know that many businesses in the region have excelled and flourished despite the turbulent economy, and we want ensure they are receiving the recognition they deserve.

"I encourage all businesses to come forward and be acknowledged, to receive accolade from peers and to show all that is good in our business community at this year's annual Business Awards.

"All businesses in Barnsley and Rotherham are welcome to enter and there are categories that cater for businesses of all sizes and sectors. I hope that all can join us at the ceremony to celebrate our region's best and brightest."

Entries can be submitted online and the full category criteria can be downloaded from www.brchamber.co.uk/awards. The final deadline for entries is 13 September.

Tickets for the awards ceremony are priced at £60 plus VAT (or £550 plus VAT for a table of ten) and can be booked by contacting the awards team on 01709 386200 or by emailing events@brchamber.co.uk

This year's awards are in association with Bull Information Systems

Another high profile event is taking place next week when Tankersley Manor Hotel in Barnsley plays host to the Chamber Means Business Exhibition. The free to attend business-to-business exhibition on September 11 includes various workshops and provides the chance to network with the region's best businesses.
