News: AESSEAL's manufacturing excellence

By

Award-winning Rotherham company, AESSEAL, is urging the region's manufacturing firms to follow its own example and start on a business improvement journey towards manufacturing excellence.

There is just over a week left to apply for the Institution of Mechanical Engineers' (IMechE) new-look Manufacturing Excellence Awards which now includes a new online tool offers companies free, immediate and targeted business advice.

The MX Awards are the UK's longest running business awards of their kind and were established 30 years ago to protect manufacturing and promote best practice.

This year marks the launch of a new, streamlined process aimed at providing expert advice in an easier format. All companies who complete the assessment, which takes just four hours to complete, will receive an instantaneous report highlighting key areas for improvement.

With a global headquarters at Templeborough, AESSEAL specialise in the design and manufacture of mechanical seals, bearing protectors and environmental control systems. It was named the overall winning company for the 2011 Manufacturing Excellence Awards and is now a partner in the awards.

Chris Rea, managing director of AESSEAL, said: "Our business engaged in a benchmarking exercise with the Manufacturing Excellence Awards, which became an important part of our "Excellence Programme" and we grew from £31m to £124m sales over a ten year period.

"I can therefore heartily recommend the Manufacturing Excellence Awards as an opportunity to learn more about business improvement opportunities and to grow and develop your business too."

This year, Yorkshire and the North East have also been selected to have a regional award, with the winning companies announced in December 2013.

Philippa Oldham, Head of Manufacturing at the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, said: "I would urge businesses in Yorkshire and the North East to take this opportunity to receive this free expert advice, as well as to be in with a chance of winning a prestigious Manufacturing Excellence Award.

"In a time of fierce competition in business, the expert advice provided through the Manufacturing Excellence Awards could make the difference between a company’s success and failure."
