News: Credit due for Gala Tent system

By

Rotherham-based Gala Tent has launched a new online payment system which aims to protect customers from fraudulent telephone transactions.

The Secure Order Transfer system which the Manvers company developed has received interest from one of the world's leading credit card companies, which is looking to run the platform on licence.

One the UK's largest importer and exporter of tents, marquees and pop up awnings, Gala Tent launched the system six months ago and it has already been recognised as a finalist in the national Credit Excellence Awards in The Credit Excellent in Risk, Data and Fraud Protection category.

Jason Mace, managing director of Gala Tent, said: "We have had lots of interest in our innovative Secure Order Transfer system, from the major banks and it is really exciting to be in negotiations for a licence agreement with one of the World's best known credit card companies. These major corporate businesses are recognising how the technology could help to further protect them and their customers from even more fraudulent transactions over the telephone.

"It is going to revolutionise the ways that business is done, providing much greater protection to both small and large businesses when trading their goods."

Gala Tent's IT department, supported by its management team, developed the system in-house. It works by allowing the customer to complete payment processes online, using a unique reference number and URL provided by the telephone sales representative. Confirmation that the payment has passed security checks is then sent back to the secure server, where it is stored anonymously along with the reference number and the telephone sales representative is then able to confirm that payment has been authorised. As no card details are collected, processed or stored, the platform negates the need for PCI compliance, relying solely on the payment gateway which is fully level 1 compliant.

Mace added: "The problem comes when customers order goods via telephone and want them to be delivered to an alternative address. Previously there was no way to be sure that this wasn't someone committing fraud – but with our Secure Order Transfer system we can. This means retailers can avoid having to carry out manual fraud checks, whilst protecting themselves and their customers."

Gala Tent is now making the technology available to other retailers, under license.
