News: CeX to open Rotherham store

By

Fit-out work is underway for a new CeX store in Rotherham town centre.

The High Street chain specialises in secondhand technology and entertainment, taking the book swapping concept and updating it by trading in digital entertainment products. CeX shops buy, sell and exchange mobile phones, games, electronics, computers and DVDs directly from the public.

Opening soon on Frederick Street, the new Rotherham store will join over 300 branches in the UK and Europe.

Complete Entertainment Exchange (CeX) was formed in 1992 in London by a group of gadget lovers who, disappointed by the ignorance of existing high street retailers, vowed to bring quality second-hand technological and entertainment goods to the public. Starting with £3,000, the founders exploited a gap in the market which meant that they couldn't afford the latest gadgets and had nowhere to get rid of their old stuff.

The business model involves the buying and selling of quality second-hand technology and entertainment products. The ongoing development of mobile phones, MP3 players, digital cameras, computers and games consoles means models are quickly updated and replaced. CeX has widened these growing markets by giving customers the choice to buy second-hand goods with a 12-month warranty at attractive prices and the ability to exchange their unwanted goods for cash or something they do want.

Operating a successful franchise model, the group has a reported turnover of over £65m and over 1,000 employees.
