News: Exporting to Romania

By

Barnsley & Rotherham Chamber of Commerce is hosting an Exporting to Romania event this week to give delegates the opportunity to learn more about the market and the opportunities that exist for UK exporters.

Earlier this year Andrew Denniff, Chief Executive at the Chamber reported on his visit to Romania at the latter end of 2013 highlighting that there are many economic similarities between the Eastern European Region and the issues South Yorkshire has had to deal with over the past 30 years.

Building on the emerging relationship with Romania, the Chamber is welcoming Richard Reese, CEO of the British Romanian Chamber of Commerce based in Bucharest, to South Yorkshire.

Taking place on Wednesday June 18 at the Brinsworth Academy of Engineering on Sheffield Road, Rotherham, the morning event covers issues including: Romania & The Central Eastern Region; Opportunities for Exporters; Preparing for Market Entry; Support Available; Trade Mission Plans for September 2014.

Andrew Denniff, Chief Executive at the Chamber, said: "In October 2013 a small group from the Chamber visited Rotherham's partner town in Romania - Cluj-Nopaca.

"From the beginning of 2014, both Romania and Bulgaria became full members of the European Union and the opportunity to develop well established links with the city provides a wonderful opportunity for the Chamber to explore potential business relationships with our colleagues in Romania.

"Cluj-Nopaca is an important regional commercial centre at the heart of a large rural economy and is the main city of the Translyvanian region in the north of Romania. Its key industrial sectors include IT and software development, metallurgical activity, furniture manufacturing and food processing.

"Since the revolution in 1989, the city has virtually been forced to re-invent itself and with a huge student population, and a young, educated and English speaking workforce, there are many opportunities for our members to get involved.

"The plan is to take a larger delegation of businesses to Romania in 2014 and begin to develop firmer links and explore real, long term relationships between South Yorkshire and Cluj-Nopaca."

Places at this week's event are free and can be booked through the Chamber website
