News: Global audience for aerospace event in Rotherham

Over 250 representatives from the global aerospace industry met at the Advanced Manufacturing Park (AMP) in Rotherham to discuss the latest innovations being introduced to get maximum performance for minimum cost.

The Trends in Aerospace Manufacturing (TRAM09) Conference, organised by the University of Sheffield Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre with Boeing and sponsored by the AMP and Yorkshire Forward, attracted speakers from some of the world's leading research organisations and manufacturers.

Test pilot Ricardo Traveno, of Boeing, gave first-hand insights into flying the F18 Super Hornet. He stressed the importance of maintenance and servicing issues being considered in the design and manufacture of aircraft components.

The international delegates also got an overview of trends in machine-tool design by Dr Masahiko Mori, president of Mori Seiki.

The senior business development manager of South Yorkshire's Advanced Manufacturing and Metals (AMM) team, Joe Anwyl, said: "The success of events such as this contributes to the AMP's international reputation as the prime location for innovation, research and manufacturing excellence in the UK."

After this year's event at the AMP in Rotherham, next year's conference will be held in Chicago.
