News: Chance for young people in Rotherham to show their metal

Custom Metal Products (CMP) in Rotherham is helping to get Britain working by taking on a new apprentice.

The Masbrough firm, which offers bespoke general fabrications, sheet metal work, high definition plasma profiling and general engineering services, is looking to recruit a business administration assistant who would work in the company's estimating, sales and marketing department and is being assisted in the recruitment process by The Sheffield College.

Howard Hughes, owner of CMP, said: "This is a good opportunity for someone to join a family company which is well-respected in the local community.

"We are excited to be giving youngsters the chance to start a career with us. Hopefully other recruiters in the area will follow suit to help boost the economy."

CMP, founded in 2010, currently employs four people. They work with a number of welders and fabricators on a sub-contract basis and are also on the lookout for contractors to register with them.

Julie Byrne, executive director of The Sheffield College, said: "Apprenticeships are a great way for young people to learn while working and get invaluable experience.

"We work with a wide range of employers in the South Yorkshire area to get young people on a path that suits them, so we are delighted to be helping CMP with their apprenticeship."
