News: Powerstar to cut emissions at Bolsover Council

By

Bolsover District Council is to reduce CO2 emissions by up to 51 tonnes and save an estimated £9,700 in electricity costs per annum following the installation of two Powerstar voltage optimisation systems from award-winning Rotherham experts, EMS (UK) Ltd.

A 250kva unit has been installed at the Council's main Sherwood Lodge offices and a smaller 90kva unit has been fitted at their Riverside Depot.

Powerstar is the only voltage optimisation system wholly designed and manufactured in the UK and works by reducing the the voltage supplied by the National Grid.

Councillor Dennis Kelly, Cabinet Member for the Environment at Bolsover District Council said: "This decision highlights our dedication to reducing our own carbon footprint. The projected savings that Powerstar is set to deliver will be a welcome boost towards helping us achieve our energy efficiency targets. It was also ideal to be able to purchase from a local company."

A full onsite survey was carried out by EMSc at both locations to determine the correct size of unit and guaranteed level of CO2 savings and energy reductions that the Powerstar voltage optimisation systems will achieve.

Terry Shemwell, Powerstar Consultant (Local Authorities & Public Services) UK said: "Powerstar is providing Bolsover District Council with an immediate saving in energy usage and will quickly become an integral part of their programme to reach the sustainability targets they have set.

"For us power optimisation is about helping companies like Bolsover District Council achieve demonstrable savings in their energy bills, lower maintenance costs on equipment and, through the real time monitoring system, enabling them to take further steps on their own to reduce overall electricity consumption."

To date Powerstar has been installed at more than 2,500 sites and the Templeborough firm has recently signed an agreement with the Cockburn Group in Australia which will see the UK manufactured Powerstar units go on sale in the country for the first time.
