News: Wassenburg relocate to Smithy Wood

By

Wassenburg Medical Devices is relocating from Rotherham to Sheffield.

The Dutch-owned company is one of the world's leading manufacturers of endoscope decontamination and storage products and is transferring its UK operation from Hellaby to Smithy Wood.

The move, just a few miles up the M1 from its current location, means the company can retain the skills and expertise of its existing staff but also cut costs.

The new offices will add value for NHS customers relying on Wassenburg's technology for effective decontamination of endoscopes, thanks to a new training facility. Some 1,500 sq ft of the 8,000 sq ft unit will become a dedicated area where NHS staff will benefit from certified courses run by the company’s National Training Officers.

Rob Salter, operations director at Wassenberg said: "As we no longer manufacture in the UK, the emphasis is more on sales and service. "This move will not only enable us to improve our training offer, which is highly-valued by the NHS, but also give us access to 4,000 sq ft of high quality office space on the first floor.

"We are also relocating our servers from the UK to the world headquarters near Nijmegen in the Netherlands and establishing a fibre-optic link between the two. This will bring the benefits of free telephone calls both within the unit at Smithy Wood and between the new offices and Holland, making use of VOIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) technology.

"We also have an intelligent phone system which, when placing a call to an overseas destination, automatically calculates whether it is more cost-effective to make that call from Holland or the UK.

"This will reduce our telecoms costs tremendously and is an added bonus of moving to Smithy Wood."

The Rotherham operation was created when DawMed sold its trading arm to Wassenberg in 2009. DawMed supplied medical disinfection machines across Europe and to a number of NHS Trusts in the UK. They also held the contract to distribute Wassenberg's products in the UK.

The directors stated that their business model couldn't work due to cut-backs in the NHS, unpredictable exchange rates and the credit crisis.

Following the sale, the company changed the name to Adalta Real PLC and put forward proposals to stay listed on the AIM operating as a property investment vehicle.

Earlier this year fellow Rotherham organisation Cutting & Wear, took a three-acre landscaped site in the industrial section of Smithy Wood. Rebecca Schofield, associate at the Sheffield office of Knight Frank, said "The success of Smithy Wood is down to its many positive selling points - the great location of the high specification buildings, the excellent environment and strong labour and transport links."

News: Change of direction for Dawmed following sale

By

Rotherham healthcare decontamination specialist Dawmed has changed its name and investing policy following the sale of its trading arm to Dutch firm, Wassenberg.

It is not clear what effect this will have on their facility at Hellaby and the 50 employees.

Since the sale, the company has changed the name to Adalta Real PLC and put forward proposals to stay listed on the AIM operating as a property investment vehicle.

News: Good results and new contracts for Dawmed

By

Rotherham healthcare decontamination specialist Dawmed have announced their latest financial results. For the financial year ended September 30, profits rose by £448,500 from the net loss of £398,500 in the first six month period and up by £187,500 from the net loss of £137,500 in the same period last year. Revenue is up 34% at £3.6m for the second six month period and up 49% at £7.4m for the 12 month period. Kevin Gilmore, Executive Chairman of Dawmed, said: "I am pleased to report a buoyant period of recovery from the losses of the first six month period with a second six month period net profit of £50,000, representing a favourable performance turnaround of £448,500 over the preceding period and a return to profitability as I forecast in my preceding half year report. Subject to the potential effects of GBP/Euro currency exchange rates upon equipment imported from mainland Europe, I look forward with confidence to continued growth and profitability across the range of activities of the Company over the final six months of the extended financial period to 31 March 2009. "I am pleased to report that there are strong indications that the increased level of activity enjoyed in the first and second six month periods will continue for the current extended financial period and possibly further into the foreseeable future." Hellaby based Dawmed also announced that they had been successful in being accepted as an approved supplier for the NHS. Through a tendering process, the NHS in England has recently developed a national framework agreement for the supply of endoscope washer disinfectors and drying/storage cabinets. This framework agreement became operational during the early part of February 2009 and will allow hospitals and trusts to purchase directly through the contract, thereby avoiding some of the costs and delays associated with conducting a formal tender. Early indications are that the national framework agreement is being well received by NHS trusts.

News: Turnaround for Rotherham's Dawmed

By

Rotherham healthcare decontamination specialist DawMed have announced their latest financial results. Turnover increased by 67% to £3.82m compared to £2.29m in 2006 and the company said sales of its own products significantly increased over the six months up to March 31st. Without the impact of losses such as the exceptional foreign exchange rate, the company would have made a profit in the period of £61,900. Kevin Gilmore, Executive Chairman of Dawmed, commented: "I am pleased to report a buoyant period of recovery from last year's losses, with a first half underlying performance turnaround of £501,000, excluding the effects of the exceptional foreign exchange loss and the non-recurring abnormal costs expected to be recoverable in the second half, and I look forward to the current profitable trading leading to profitability for the second half of the year."

News: Good year for Rotherham based DawMed

By

Rotherham based DawMed Systems Plc. said that the first half of the year has exceeded its expectations as substantially increased turnover helped the medical decontamination specialist recover from the disappointing results for last year. In reporting the results, DawMed were confident of a return to profit in 2008 due to a number of new contracts and the largest order book in the group's history. The confidence looks well founded and in a statement ahead of the company's AGM, Chairman Kevin Gilmore said he expects the resumption of a more normal level of NHS business, along with the company's amended strategy, to contribute towards continued success in the second half. The company has also announced that they have been appointed as exclusive distributor for Meiko bed pan washer machines in England, Scotland and Wales to accompany deals in Europe with Schulke & Mayr.

News: Dawmed confident of return to profit after difficult year

By

Rotherham based medical company, Dawmed have published their latest financial results and blamed a lack of spending by the NHS, investment in IT and litigation costs for a £578,000 loss in the year to September 30, down from an £88,000 loss the previous year. But chairman Kevin Gilmore said a number of new contracts and the largest order book in the group's history should help it return to profit in 2008. Earlier this month the group was awarded a major contract with the East Kent Hospitals NHS Trust and a potential deal to supply their medical disinfection machines to hospitals across Europe.
