News: Funding boost for ZND

ZND, Europe's largest manufacturer of temporary fencing and pedestrian barriers which has a manufacturing operation in Rotherham, has brought in new funding from a private equity firm to support the next phase of growth.

The Dutch firm has partnered with Gilde, a well-established financial investor with a strong track record in developing mid-market companies.

ZND said that it "sees Gilde as a cornerstone investor that fully supports the growth strategy envisaged by current management."

Gilde Buy Out Partners has acquired a share in ZND Holding BV and the existing management of ZND will go on to maintain a majority interest in a newly established company - ZND Group BV.

ZND Group was established in 1965 in Holland and now has operations in Holland, UK, Germany, France and Poland supplying products to clients and distributors across the globe.

Established in 1997, ZND UK manufactures temporary fencing, hoarding and pedestrian barriers for the events and construction industry. At its 170,000 sq ft Rotherham facility at Barbot Hall, ZND manufactures more than 17,500 metres of temporary fencing per day. Investment in 2016 saw a doubling of capacity as it aimed to boost exports by 50%.

Rotherham-based ZND UK, the market leader in the manufacture and supply of high quality temporary fencing, has doubled its production capacity after securing an asset finance facility worth £3.2m from Lloyds Bank Commercial Banking.

Established in 1997, the firm manufactures temporary fencing, hoarding and pedestrian barriers for the events and construction industry.

Securing financial backing from Barclays in 2014 enabled ZND to purchase its 170,000 sq ft Rotherham facility at Barbot Hall that manufactures more than 17,500 meters of temporary fencing per day.

Over the last few years continued investment and improvements have been made in machinery to produce a fully automated production line. ZND has invested in a fence line machine using asset finance funding from Lloyds Bank's Global Transaction Banking team, in response to increased customer demand.

As well as doubling the output capacity, the machine can also produce panels to European specifications. ZND UK currently exports 30% of its outputs to the continent but since having the machine installed, is aiming to increase exports by 50% by the end of the year.

"Lloyds Bank was able to identify and provide a funding solution which significantly increased our export capacity, capitalising on growing demand from overseas for products that comply with EU regulations."

Over 15,000 fences and over 3,000 pedestrian barriers went to Glastonbury and ZND safety barriers were also in use for the Grand Depart of the Tour de France held in Yorkshire in 2014.

The Dutch-owned firm has a turnover of £38m and employs around 100 staff in Rotherham.

Famous for making barriers, Rotherham-based ZND UK is now breaking barriers, after a bespoke pedestrian barrier machine installed in 2012 reached the milestone of producing over one million barriers.

The market leader in the manufacture and supply of high quality temporary fencing, ZND has invested millions in the manufacturing process that makes its products the most technically advanced temporary fencing and pedestrian panel range available today.

Securing financial backing from Barclays enabled ZND to purchase its 170,000 sq ft Rotherham facility at Barbot Hall that manufactures more than 17,500 meters of temporary fencing per day.

The firm has a turnover of £37m and employs around 100 staff.

Over the last few years continued investment and improvements have been made into the machine to produce a fully automated production line to fulfil increased demand.

In January 2013 ZND added new automated welding robots to the production line to produce even stronger and durable barriers.

A spokesperson for ZND, said: "This year, due to the success of our existing barrier production line we are adding a second updated system to run alongside our existing machine. This will allow us to increase our capacity to produce even more quality barriers for our customers."

The funding has enabled ZND to purchase its 170,000 sq ft Rotherham facility that manufactures more than 17,500 meters of temporary fencing per day. Recent investment in new machinery is significantly increasing the capacity even further and ZND hopes to increase the number of staff, currently at 97, as it secures more orders from across the globe.

Turnover is expected to reach £37m this year with the success of its "Smartweld" products. Smartweld is one of the toughest, most durable temporary fencing panel systems ever developed and ZND has invested millions in the manufacturing process that makes its products the most technically advanced temporary fencing and pedestrian panel range available today.

News: Rotherham firms' marathon efforts

Two Rotherham firms have helped thousands of runners stay the course at two of the world's top marathons.

Fencing made by ZND UK was recently used at the 2014 Boston Marathon, the world's oldest annually contested marathon.

ZND are specialists in the design and manufacture of temporary fencing for crowd containment purposes. Their facility on Barbot Hall industrial estate manufactures more than 17,500 meters of temporary fencing per day.

35,755 runners took part in the event that was held on Patriots' Day on a course which spans 26.2 miles through the Boston area.

A spokesperson for ZND, said: "We are very proud to be part of such a successful event and hope our relationship with the marathon continues into the future."

Another Rotherham firm, Kiveton Park's Events Solutions, transported almost 15,000 metres of fencing and barrier to the capital on April 13 to create start and finish lines at the London Marathon.

Events Solutions provides crowd control and barrier systems for public gatherings of all sizes, from village fetes to film premieres, concerts, festivals and major sporting events.

A total of 3,650 metres of pedestrian barrier and 2,150 metres of heras fencing was used to segregate the crowd and runners at the marathon's starting point in Black Heath. Working with local firm, Capital Barriers, Events Solutions supplied a further 3,400 metres of pedestrian barrier and 5,500 metres of heras fencing for the finish on The Mall.

Once all of the runners have crossed the line and the crowds departed, the barrier was dismantled and some of it erected again outside the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden in time for the Olivier Awards the same evening.

The firm, which underwent a management buyout last year, has invested in another Mercedes Actros tractor unit and 220m of aluminium touring barrier that makes them one of the country's largest stock holders of front of stage barrier.

The firm has seen an increasing demand from the producers of film premiers and concerts. Recent events include the Mandella film premiere, JLS' fairwell tour and for the 10th year running, Edinburgh's Hogmanay celebrations.

Fencing made in Rotherham by ZND UK made a surprise appearance on a recent episode of ITV's The X Factor.

As the biggest television talent competition in Europe began the first of its live shows on primetime Saturday night telly, ZND's Smartweld fencing was integral to the on stage performance of one of the hopefuls.

It was 80's night on the hit show and as 16 year-old singer Tamera Foster sang her version of the 1983 hit "Ain't Nobody" by Rufus & Chaka Khan, backing dancers performed a unique routine that involved moving a number of Smartweld fences around the stage.

It meant that ZND's products were in front of a TV audience of over nine million viewers and the performance impressed the judging panel and Tamera was safely through to the next round.

A spokesperson for ZND, said: "It was a great surprise to see the panels being used and shows that ZND fencing is also appreciated for its aesthetic value."

Last year ZND products played an integral part in high profile events in London including the Olympics and the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.

Barriers made in Rotherham by ZND UK played a high profile role in the recent celebrations in London for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.

The Barbot Hall company secured a lucrative contract to supply around 85 kilometres of pedestrian barriers for use by The Metropolitan Police at a range of events in the capital over the summer.

15 kilometres of police barriers and 70 kilometres of standard barriers will be transported from Rotherham as part of the order.

A spokesperson at ZND UK, said: "The Diamond Jubilee weekend may have been a wet affair but most agreed it was a time to celebrate.

"Our pedestrian barriers were everywhere! It was almost impossible to watch any TV coverage without them making an appearance."

Rotherham-based ZND UK, the market leader in the manufacture and supply of high quality temporary fencing, has secured a deal to supply the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games in London this summer.

ZND will be supplying around 85 kilometres of pedestrian barriers for use by The Metropolitan Police at a huge range of events for the hundred of thousands of people who will visit the Capital each day.

The Met has a key role in planning and delivering an operation that, together with partners, will keep the Games safe and secure.

With more than 10 million tickets being sold and over 200 countries participating, the Games are the world's biggest sporting event and will see the Met mount the largest ever peacetime policing operation in its history.

It will run for 64 days, and cover over 1,000 venues including those hosting Olympic and Paralympic sports, cultural events and 2012 themed celebrations taking place across the Capital. Venues include the Olympic Park, Wembley Stadium, Horse Guards Parade and Wimbledon.

15 kilometres of police barriers and 70 kilometres of standard barriers will be transported from Rotherham as part of the order.

ZND have shipped out 65 containers of temporary fencing from their Barbot Hall facility in a deal that will supply 61 kilometres of fencing for use around the city and in the venues.

Fellow Rotherham company, Macalloy has provided tie rods for the construction of the Yamuna Sports Complex, which will host both the table tennis and archery preliminary events at the Commonwealth Games.
