News: Owners jumping for joy following international deal

By

A trampoline and indoor children’s leisure park operator with eight sites across the UK and its head office in Rotherham has been acquired by an international counterpart.

Jump Inc has been acquired by private equity-backed Norwegian business AirHop.

Founded in 2015 by shareholders and directors Michael Brockelbank and Lee Shipley, with its first park in Parkgate, the Jump Inc group has become one of the largest independent trampoline park operators in the UK.

The company has eight sites in total, including the recently opened West Wood Cross site in Kent, and with a plan for more to come.

All three director shareholders who are currently involved in the business - Michael Brockelbank, Lee Shipley, and Mark Poole - will remain involved for the coming months in a consultancy capacity.

AirHop, which currently has 18 trampoline and activity centres in the UK, is owned by Activeon, Europe’s largest trampoline park operator with a total of 57 parks in the Nordics, Germany, the Netherlands, and the UK, and are backed by Norwegian private equity firm Equip Capital.

Michael Brockelbank, director and shareholder at Jump Inc, said: "The sale of Jump Inc is a great success story, the plan was always to create and build a portfolio of sites and sell, which is what we have done as a collective. The future is bright for the business with planned investment in new features that will see the parks get even better for our customers.

"Growing to more than 500 employees in a relatively short period of time has had its challenges but these have been overcome to give us the result we set out to achieve when starting out back in 2015. We will miss our work colleagues who are also good friends but at the same time wish Tim and AirHop luck moving the business and sector forward."

Tim McClure, managing director, AirHop, added: "We are very pleased that Jump Inc has joined AirHop as we continue to expand and really strengthen our business in and around Yorkshire. Lee, Michael and Mark have established a great business that puts the guest experience at the centre of every decision. We look forward to working with the fantastic staff at Jump Inc as we continue to grow and invest in new activities for our guests."

Castle Square Corporate Finance Assistant Manager Joseph Potts led on the transaction, providing expert corporate finance advice and project management services to oversee the deal to successful completion.

Joseph Potts said: "I am absolutely delighted to assist Michael, Lee, Mark and the rest of the shareholders with their long-term exit plans from the business. They have managed to build one of the most well-known trampoline park brands in the UK and it is satisfying to see them being rewarded for all their hard work. We have also given AirHop and Activeon a massive opportunity to expand their foothold in the UK even further and establish themselves as the go-to trampoline park in the UK."

The Sheffield office of Yorkshire-based law firm Lupton Fawcett, led by partner Rory Conwill, provided legal advice to the shareholders.

Conwill added: "My colleagues and I are very pleased to have supported Michael, Lee, Mark and the wider Jump Inc team on the sale of the business to AirHop. Jump Inc is a high-quality, Yorkshire-based business that has attracted overseas inward investment into the region. We wish Tim and the wider AirHop team every success for the future."

AirHop was advised by London-based commercial law firm Ignition Law.

News: Red tape delays Jump start

By

Leisure operators, Jump Inc. have had to delay the reopening of its popular trampoline and inflatable parks.

The leisure industry has been severley affected by Covid restrictions and new rules for reopening. At Step 3 of the Government's roadmap, indoor entertainment and visitor attractions could reopen on May 17.

However, the auditors for trampoline, inflatable and ninja parks across the country have a huge backlog of applications and have failed to provide the required documentation in time for Jump Inc's planned opening date. Jump Inc, and 107 other leisure centres are in the same position, awaiting confirmation.

The company, which is based at its Parkgate branch in Rotherham also operates in Sheffield, Leeds and Lincoln.

In a statement this week, operators said: "The audit sign-off which we need is in relation to our operations, which includes health and safety for example. This is needed for insurance purposes. Without it, we wouldn’t have adequate cover and so we can’t reopen until it‘s in place.

"We’ve upgraded a few features in some of the parks, but mostly we’re intending on following the same COVID-compliant procedures which we had in place when we were open last summer. So as you can imagine the time we’re spending waiting for the reports to be signed off is massively frustrating for us.

"We know that the same issue is affecting many other operators across the country but that doesn’t make it any easier in having to temporarily disappoint our valued customers. For now, we can only continue to apologise and let you know that we’re doing everything we can to get the parks open as speedily as possible. (All information has been submitted, so this is out of our hands, which only makes it even more frustrating for us.)"

In Rotherham, refurbishment has taken place whilst the park was closed and the company has already introduced Covid measures including enhanced cleaning procedures and running at reduced capacity of 70%.

Jump Inc added that no one will have lost out on their booking and all funds can be refunded or referred to an alternative date.

News: JUMP INC set to open "UK's largest inflatable theme park" in Rotherham

By

Already a popular trampoline park, JUMP INC is now progressing plans to create an inflatable theme park inside a former parcel depot in Rotherham.

A planning application was approved in 2015 to enable a 22,000 sq ft unit at Parkgate Business Park to be used for leisure uses. Having opened in Rotherham first, the operators have since opened sites at Meadowhall in Sheffield and in Leeds.

The new development is described as the "next generation of adrenaline fuelled fun" and will replace the trampolines with wall-to-wall inflatables.

Super Tramps, parkour obstacle courses, dodgeball courts and BigAirBags will be replaced by obstacle courses, a huge football and basketball zone and giant wipe out balls.

"It's jam packed with exciting new activities and features! You can experience challenging obstacle courses, a huge football and basketball zone, giant wipe out balls and loads more. The 30,000 square feet site will host a dedicated toddler area, ball pool, jelly mountain, basher forest and free fall area – guaranteeing hours of entertainment for everyone!!!

"The new park, which was formerly our Rotherham trampoline park, is closing for refurbishments as its undergoes it's makeover into Jump INCflated. The other Jump Inc Trampoline sites will continue to operate as normal."

Across the borough, Magna Mayhem, Yorkshire's largest indoor inflatable adventure zone, at Magna Science Adventure Centre attracted 3,000 children in in August and over the summer holidays last year.

News: JUMP INC. plans Rotherham facility

By

A former parcel depot in Rotherham could be converted into an "urban playground" with wall to wall connected trampolines, if plans are approved to change the use class of an empty building.

A planning application has been submitted which would enable a 22,000 sq ft unit at Parkgate Business Park to be used for leisure uses. Applicants, Future Leisure Ltd is hoping to open its flagship "JUMP INC." trampoline park in Rotherham and another facility at Meadowhall is also being planned - offering 170 interconnected trampolines, trampolines up the walls, air bags, basketball, dodgeball and fitness facilities.

Royal Mail Group's express parcels business, Parcelforce Worldwide, opened its new depot in Rotherham at the end of 2013. The UK and International parcel delivery service took over the 152,421 sq ft distribution unit at the Magna 34 development at Templeborough. Increasing job numbers, it is about seven times the floor space of the previous site on Parkgate Business Park.

The vacated unit has been empty since the relocation and the plan is to reconfigure the unit back to its original two subdivided units. In addition to the trampoline areas, the plans, drawn up by Coda Planning, also show function rooms, a café, offices and a mezzanine viewing gallery. A new pedestrian link to Rotherham Road is also proposed.

Opening 8am till 10pm every day, it is estimated that the peak number of visitors will be around 8,000 per month.

A total of 22 staff is proposed as part of the facility. Around 16 part time staff and six full time staff.

The first indoor trampoline park opened in 2004 in Las Vegas and they have been gaining in popularity ever since. The International Association of Trampoline Parks estimates that by the end of this year there will be more than 550 indoor trampoline parks open worldwide.
As the site is not located within a designated town, district or local centre, officers at Rotherham Council have asked that a sequential test assessment be undertaken in line with national and local planning policies. Sequential tests ensure that development is located in the most sustainable location first (usually in town centres), before other, less sustainable locations are chosen.

After assessing the potential for sites across the borough that are designated for mixed used and leisure uses, the applicant concludes that none in preferable locations fit the criteria for indoor trampoline parks that need large buildings with interrupted indoor space with high eaves.

The plans also conclude that "the likely impact on the surrounding road network in terms of highways, access or parking will not present any reason for refusal."

The proposals are the latest in leisure uses being sought for industrial buildings in Rotherham. Local social enterprise, Team Katalyst recently converted Unit 1, The Summit on Barbot Hall Industrial Estate into its Performance Centre which includes the country's largest indoor freerunning and Parkour park.
