News: International expansion for Little Helper

By

Rotherham-based Little Helper Ltd, has exciting expansion plans, after signing up a number of international distributors.

Now based in Dinnington supplying childcare and child play ranges of products, the enterprise has grown from their initial product, the FunPod, which was conceived by company founders Kim and Sean Johnson to keep their daughter safe in the kitchen.

Launched in 2006, the award-winning FunPod is now sold through major retailers, such as Mothercare, Amazon, Boots, Kiddicare, Hamleys, Early Learning Centre and Tesco, as well as through independent retailers.

Since then, Sean and Kim have extended their product range to include other innovative children's furniture items which the company designs in-house. Little Helper has achieved at least 30 per cent growth every year since it was established and plans to take on at least two more staff in the next 12 months, as part of its ongoing expansion.

Little Helper will shortly be releasing 10 new products which will significantly expand its current range of children's products. It is also about to become the exclusive UK and Ireland distributor for "Oops" products, a Swiss brand of soft and wooden toys and children's accessories, such as bedding and rucksacks, with 80 products in its range.

Support has come from from RiDO (Rotherham Investment & Development Office) with RiDO's business co-ordinator Julia Millea worked with Sean Johnson, managing director of Little Helper, to assist with translation services for product assembly instructions into four European languages, which has meant the company has been able to secure new distributors for its products in the Czech Republic, Slovakia and potentially in Germany.

Sean Johnson, managing director of Little Helper, said: "This is a very exciting time for our business. We have had some great support from RiDO in developing the export side of our business and see tremendous market opportunities internationally for our products. Around nine per cent of our turnover is currently from export, but this is set to grow dramatically over the coming months."

Julia Millea, business development co-ordinator for RiDO, added: "Little Helper is a fantastic success story and it has been great to be able to help them to become established in other European markets. There are huge opportunities to sell their innovative products overseas and we look forward to watching their continued growth and success internationally."

The Growth and Prosperity in Rotherham (Soft Landing Zone) project aims to assist Rotherham companies in accessing international markets and also helps foreign inward investors who choose to locate to RiDOs business centres. The project is supported financially by the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

News: Little Helper expands in Rotherham

By

A Rotherham-based enterprise is expanding nationally and internationally, thanks to its successful childcare and child play ranges of products.

Little Helper Ltd of Dinnington has grown from their initial product, the FunPod, which was conceived by company founders Kim and Sean Johnson to keep their daughter safe in the kitchen.

The FunPod has now won nine awards across three continents, and allows children from walking age to get up to kitchen worktops on their own height adjustable platform so they can help, learn, interact and play.

Since launching in 2006, 20,000 FunPods have been sold across eight countries and the company is on target to deliver 50,000 products this year alone. Their customer base in the UK includes household names such as Mothercare, Amazon, Boots, Kiddicare, Hamleys, Early Learning Centre and Tesco, as well as major independent retailers.

In this time the company has also expanded its product range with new developments including; high chairs, children's play desks and furniture, toys, play rugs, sleepwear and bedding.

Sean Johnson, managing director at Little Helper Ltd, said: "We have launched three major products this year and are working hard on a number of new products that will be introduced later this year and into 2013. We are currently developing our sales operation in the USA, and through partners the Little Helper brand will be formally launched across China from January 2013."

As part of the expansion, Little Helper Ltd has recruited a new business administration assistant. Sean, added: "With the expansion we have had need for support on the business admin aspect of the company, and so through Sarah Wilkinson at Rotherham Investment Development Office (RiDO) we were introduced to Dearne Valley College who dealt with all the recruitment for the role."

Sean and Kim are now looking forward to the company's further expansion in 2013.

RIDO's support has been delivered under the "South Yorkshire Sector Growth Enhancement Programme" which is part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund through the Yorkshire & Humber ERDF Operational Programme (2007-2013). The project aims to support both inward investors and expanding indigenous businesses to accelerate private sector expansion and increase the competitiveness of the region's business base.

News: Rotherham firm gets a little help from investors

By

The Yorkshire Post reports on child-safety equipment firm Little Helper securing £100,000 of investment from Yorkshire Association of Business Angels. Four investors from the Business Angels backed Little Helper and their FunPod device, that allows toddlers to have safe access to kitchen worktops and stand at worktop height safely, without fear of falling. It was developed in 2005 by company director and mum Kim Johnson, after her daughter nearly had an accident while helping her in the kitchen. The FunPod is sold on online by retailer Amazon and last year it secured a distributor in Australia. Ms Johnson told The Yorkshire Post: "We were looking for investment to help us increase international reach and grow a solid, child-friendly brand that will stand the test of time. "We first approached the Business Angels a couple of years ago but wanted to increase our sales and prove ourselves before making the final investment agreement. "We're really pleased that Max and the other investors are now on board, as they bring with them expertise, as well as helping us with our finance."
