News: Rotherham butcher moves to prime location

By

Popular Rotherham-based retailer, Andrew's Butchers, has made the move to new premises in the town centre.

Well known for handmade award-winning pies and a wide selection of meats – from tasty cuts of beef, pork, lamb or poultry to more exotic choices such as ostrich, bison or kangaroo – the business is now all set to offer even more choice.

The move is backed by Rotherham Council's Business Development Grant Scheme and sees the butcher move out of the Riverside Precinct and into new premises on Effingham Street, close to the Tesco development. The 1,000 sq ft unit was previously occupied by a pay day lender.

Andrew Birks, owner of Andrew's Butchers (pictured, second left), said: "It's a great move for us to Effingham Street and we are really looking forward to welcoming customers old and new who can expect to see the same great range of products as well as the introduction of our fresh fish counter."

Cllr Denise Lelliott, advisory cabinet member for Housing and the Local Economy at Rotherham Council, added: "It's great to see a fantastic business like Andrew's Butchers find a new home in the town centre with support from the Council's Business Development Grant Scheme. I'm sure the new space will allow Andrew's to go from strength to strength."

Rotherham town centre was named as a Portas Pilot by the Government in 2012 and compiled a pot of £350,000 to support the Council and its town team partners in realising its vision to create a vibrant and thriving town centre with a different retail offer by fostering new, independent businesses.

The business vitality scheme aimed at encouraging new independent retailers to open up outlets in Rotherham town centre has been running since 2008. The scheme has provided discretionary financial assistance in the form of rental contributions, business planning, business advice, and contributions to shop front grants, fit out costs and street furniture.

Funding has also been set aside to support existing town centre retailers to help them undertake significant business development projects and for training and marketing activity.
