News: Sustainable Manufacturing in the 21st Century

By

University of Sheffield’s recently opened Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre Factory of the Future in Rotherham is hosting a national summit this week. Organised by Metalworking Production magazine and the AMRC, the event includes top level speakers from organisations such as Boeing, Rolls Royce and AMRC, plus senior managers from successful SMEs in the advanced manufacturing sector. Topics include advanced manufacturing technologies and materials, maximising global sourcing and marketing opportunities, the impact of environmental imperatives and the aerospace sector: insider perspectives. There will also be a tour of the facilities and demonstrations of the work going on at AMRC, including the potential for virtual reality to improve manufacturing methods and product performance. The Factory of the Future, with its zero carbon footprint philosophy, is a living demonstration of what can happen when intellect and creativity, advanced technology, and commerce work together. The event is at 9:15am on November 6 with James Nathan, winner of this year’s BBC TV Masterchef contest, to provide lunch.
