News: Ideal new shop for Rotherham town centre

By

Amidst the economic gloom, one enterprising businessman has seen a glimmer of light – and is taking a new retailing venture to the high streets. Rotherham entrepreneur Tom Lloyd, 32, has just thrown open the doors of Ideal Home Furnishings, in Rotherham town centre, hoping to woo customers who in better times might have shopped at the bigger furniture chains. And if his business model works, he’ll be looking to take the idea to other centres. It has already created three new jobs. Tom said: "I know it’s not an obvious time to open your first shop, but I've done my research and believe there is definitely a lot of potential for a venture like this to do well – even in the current economic retail climate. "I’m looking to set up more shops around the South Yorkshire area in the future. It’s a case of ‘if you don’t give it a go, you’ll never know’." The new venture has taken over a two-storey premises in the Old Town Hall shopping arcade. It stocks a range of cushions, vases, ornaments, soft lighting, candles, clocks and cutlery as well as a range of furniture including coffee tables and cabinets. Rotherham Town Centre manager Julie Roberts said: "This is great news for the town centre in an otherwise gloomy national economic picture – it’s this kind of entrepreneurial spirit that will help to attract new shoppers hunting for bargains. "We wish Tom all the best of luck with his new shop."

I wish Tom Lloyd the best of luck, and along with Julie Roberts' idea for helping to attract new shoppers hunting for bargains, it would be great welcome news if the RMBC Elected Members created a car-friendly road and parking atmosphere to seduce punters and their wallets/purses into the Ghost Town Centre. Best Wishes, BramleyBoy.
