News: Rotherham town centre in bloom
Central Rotherham was given a boost this month with the introduction of 100 hanging baskets and over a dozen tiered floral displays concentrated on key shopping streets.
They come with the planting that Rotherham Borough council's Streetpride services have already put in place in the town centre for the summer months.
The move was made in light of shoppers' feedback that they wanted to see more planting and greenery in the centre.
Town Centre Manager Julie Roberts said: "As part of an overall promotion of the town centre and recognising the importance of a pleasant and attractive environment, we hope this is a start in improving the planting of the town centre year on year and resurrecting the Rotherham in Bloom competition.
"This is one of a number of measures aimed at making the centre more appealing to shoppers and residents, including free after 3 parking."
The Town Centre Management Team's next focus will be to improve the appearance of vacant units and efforts are now being made to contact landlords through working with council partners, gain permission to enter the units to put up window displays and various other options for masking the frontages while they remain unoccupied.
