By

A senior figure from Lord Mandelson's department visited the Advanced Manufacturing Park (AMP) in Rotherham this week to see how organisations based there are helping the region's manufacturers take advantage of emerging technologies to make them more globally competitive.

Philip Rutnam, Director General – Business, from the Department of Business, Innovation and Skills, toured the University of Sheffield's AMRC with Boeing Rolls-Royce Factory of the Future and TWI Technology Centre (Yorkshire) during his visit hosted by Yorkshire Forward.

The senior business development manager of South Yorkshire's Advanced Manufacturing & Metals (AMM) team, Joe Anwyl, said: "The Park is fast becoming the UK's centre for advanced manufacturing research and innovation, both in terms of the technologies being developed at the site and the companies choosing to locate there.

"The wide range of property options available provides growing companies with the opportunity to move here and benefit from their proximity to industry innovators such as the AMRC and TWI."

Jim Farmery, Assistant Director of Business at Yorkshire Forward said: "This is an opportunity to showcase the world-class technologies being developed at the Advanced Manufacturing Park for not only the companies based on the park, but also manufacturers across the region, ensuring Yorkshire and Humber is competitive and strengthening the regional economy."
