News: Travel advice for job seekers in Rotherham
South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive (SYPTE) is involved in a brand new project aimed at helping people into employment, education and training throughout South Yorkshire.
The three-year Access to Opportunities project will help job seekers via a programme of integrated, sustainable transport solutions.
The project is made up of three strands: Wheels 2 Work, bus services, and Travel Advice, and has received £2.38 million investment from the European Union. The funding comes from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) programme that is investing over £500 million to boost competitiveness and employment in the Yorkshire and the Humber region by 2013.
Additional financial support has been provided by the Coalfields Regeneration Trust and the Local Transport Plan. Stagecoach are also involved in the project.
Access to Opportunities has four dedicated SYPTE Travel Advisors, one in each district, who aim to help assist people into employment, education and training, as well as aiding businesses to recruit and retain staff using sustainable transport options, all of which are vital during the current economic climate.
The South Yorkshire Wheels 2 Work scheme is operated by Sheffield Community Transport (SCT) and provides motorised scooters for people needing to get to a new job or training opportunity when public transport is not a viable option. The scooters are loaned for a fixed period and full training and equipment is provided.
The project will also see enhanced bus services, operated by Stagecoach, being run across the Dearne Valley area to increase the travel options available to people looking for or already in work, and for those enjoying leisure pursuits.
