News: Students awarded Boeing scholarships
Students from the University of Sheffield have been presented with their scholarships from Boeing at the University's Boeing Day with the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC).
Ten students joined the Boeing Scholarship and Support Scheme which provides students with £3,000 to support them through their studies. Aimed at students with an interest in aerospace, the programme is intended to promote academic excellence and wider access to engineering.
Director of manufacturing technology for Boeing Research and Technology and chairman of the AMRC board of directors, Bart Moenster said: "Boeing works closely with selected colleges and universities worldwide to enhance curricula, support continuing education, recruit outstanding candidates for employment, and collaborate on research that benefits the long-term needs of our customers' business.
"The University of Sheffield is an excellent example of how by working together we can achieve success."
The scholarships are part of a wider initiative launched by Boeing for students at the University of Sheffield which includes support for a number of projects through the provision of funding for equipment and consumables to design to build mini-unmanned aerial vehicles.
Ian Jamson, a scholar on the scheme, said: "I am delighted to receive this prestigious award. It is really going to help me widen my university experience, by enabling me to commit to volunteering projects that I would not have had the time to take part in otherwise."
The AMRC with Boeing is a £60million partnership based in Rotherham, which builds on the shared scientific excellence, expertise and technological innovation of the world's leading aerospace company, Boeing, and world-class research within the University of Sheffield's Faculty of Engineering.
