News: Rotherham housing projects shortlisted for funding

By

Two housing developments in Rotherham could get a kickstart after being shortlisted by The Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) for Round 2 of the Kickstart housing delivery programme.

Targeted at currently stalled sites, the scheme aims to support construction of high quality mixed tenure housing developments and unlock up to 22,000 homes across the country.

The developments include an increasing number of affordable houses utilising the Government's HomeBuy Direct scheme that provides equity loans to help first-time buyers purchase selected new build properties.

Sir Bob Kerslake, Chief executive of the HCA, said: "Kickstart continues to be a crucial component in maintaining momentum in the house building industry. In this round we have seen a marked increase in requests for HBD funding and this indicates how the appetite for HBD has accelerated as an attractive option for first time buyers, which in turn is fuelling demand for homes."

Shortlisted schemes in Rotherham include Westleigh Developments at Express Park's Waterfront development at Manvers and Strata Homes' Colours development at nearby Manvers Way. They will now go through a due diligence process.

Both Westleigh and Strata were successful in Round 1 of the programme for developments in Rotherham.
