News: AEM centre of excellence planned for Rotherham

By

NAMTEC (the National Metals Technology Centre) is hoping to create an Advanced Materials Centre on the Advanced Manufacturing Park (AMP) in Rotherham as part of a £10m project that would create a centre of excellence for the advanced engineering and materials sector.

An outline business plan has been submitted by NAMTEC to Yorkshire Forward in a bid to secure ERDF funding with project partners, the NAMRC and the National Physical Laboratory.

The plan indicates that NAMTEC has outgrown Swinden House in Rotherham and that they will use the funding to consolidate and develop their current activities.

NAMTEC leads on delivering research and technology development, knowledge transfer, and training to companies in the engineering and manufacturing industries.

Specific activities include running AEM Yorkshire from the AMP by creating an AEM centre of excellence including a manufacturing modelling centre of excellence.

The Advanced Manufacturing Design Centre would become a world class design and modelling resource supporting innovation and development in the UK supply chains. As a UK hub for manufacturing modelling and design it would become a national training centre for manufacturing modellers.

Other activities include research and development technology demonstrators, technology transfer and knowledge transfer.

The AMP is the UK's premier advanced manufacturing technology park where world-leading materials and structures R&D organisations are partnering industry innovators and international brands to create a centre of advanced manufacturing excellence with a global reputation
