News: Macalloy supports $5.5bn Marina Bay Sands development

By

Integral engineering systems from Rotherham are being used in the Marina Bay Sands resort in Singapore, described as the world's most challenging construction projects and certainly the most expensive stand-alone integrated resort property ever built.

Based in Dinnington, Macalloy are world leaders in design, manufacture and supply of threaded bar and cable systems to engineering and construction projects across the globe.

Macalloy 460 galvanised tie rods were supplied in a range of diameters to support the roof canopies along the bayfront constructed on land reclaimed from the sea.

Developed by the Las Vegas Sands corporation, the resort is close to Singapore's financial district and includes a casino with 1,000 gaming tables and 1,400 slot machines, a 2,500 room hotel, museum, restaurants, nightclubs, shops and a convention centre.

The three hotel towers, which rise to 55 floors, are connected by the one-hectare Sands SkyPark, a spectacular rooftop garden, 200 metres from the ground on the world's largest building cantilever.

Construction is nearing completion and the first phase of the resort is due to open later this month.
