News: Rotherham titanium event attracts global interest
Delegates from as far afield as France, Sweden and India attended an event organized by the Titanium Information Group, based at the National Metals Technology Centre (NAMTEC) in Rotherham recently.
The seminar explored the opportunities for the use of Titanium in biomedical applications and keynote speakers included Anita Clarke from JRI in Sheffield and Dr Van Noort from the University of Sheffield.
JRI is a company that manufactures orthopaedic implants, including hip and joint replacements and Dr Van Noort described the University's work in developing dental implants for cleft palates and broken jaw joints. Other speakers covered aspects of measurement and production of Titanium parts from metal powder.
Programme Manager, Alastair Lang from NAMTEC, said: "This conference was very well attended and the number of visitors who travelled from overseas to attend is testament to the opportunities that lie in this area. It gave an in-depth insight into the use of Titanium in the healthcare industry and the way that manufacturers can make use of the material to supply high quality products to this sector."
The Titanium Information Group is an international organisation that promotes the use of Titanium. The TiG is an association of design engineers, manufacturers and fabricators of Titanium, which is designed to promote the benefits of the material's use in a wide variety of applications.
NAMTEC leads on delivering research and technology development, knowledge transfer, and training to companies in the engineering and manufacturing industries.
