News: Expansion plans for Parkgate Shopping on show

By

Parkgate Shopping in Rotherham is holding a public exhibition for local residents on their plans for an ASDA Living Store and an enhanced Currys PC World Megastore. These proposals form a substantial investment in Rotherham and will lead to an additional 110 jobs, alongside a number of training opportunities.

The event will be held between 10am and 6pm on Thursday October 14 at Parkgate Shopping Park. It will provide an opportunity to meet the Parkgate management and representatives from ASDA and Currys to discuss these initiatives.

Denis Copeland, Manager of Parkgate Shopping said: "We have very exciting plans for Parkgate, which will bring a large number of jobs and other benefits to local residents. We are looking forward to the opportunity to discuss these and hear what people think."

Updated planning applications regarding alterations and mezzanine levels were submitted by owners British Land to Rotherham Council at the start of September 2010. Initial plans earlier in the year were refused when the the council considered that the proposals would be likely to have a significant impact upon Rotherham town centre. British Land are appealing against the refusal.

The US electronics retailer, Best Buy announced earlier this month plans to open a store at Parkgate Shopping during 2011. It is expected to create around 100 jobs.
