News: Maplin launch iPhone App

By

A new iPhone shopping App from Rotherham-based consumer electronic retailer Maplin, went straight into Apple's Top 10 lifestyle downloads shortly after its launch.

The App, produced by Barnsley digital agency Deviate, reached number two in the lifestyle category within days of release and went straight into the Apple Store's overall UK Top 40 of popular downloads for all App types as well as gaining a feature slot in Apple's "New & Noteworthy" spotlight.

The Maplin App enables users to view over 15,000 products – 5,000 more than in the average Maplin store. Deviate have incorporated geolocation technology to allow users to identify their nearest store and a secure ordering system allowing purchase direct from customers' mobiles.

David O'Reilly, marketing director at Maplin, said: "This iPhone App further strengthens our multi-channel capabilities and complements our existing mobile website, making it even more convenient for our customers to shop with us."

Apple Store customer feedback on the App has been overwhelmingly positive with iPhone users praising ease of navigation and use.

Adie Flute, MD at Deviate, added: "Usability and design which is totally faithful to the brand have been a hallmark of Deviate's digital work over many years.

"We didn't want to overload the App with gimmicks but ensure it was well executed, simple to use and completely fit for purpose – judging by its popularity, we got the balance spot on."

Maplin moved to a 220,000 sq ft state of the art distribution centre and head office at Manvers in 2008.
