News: Ron Hull runner raises cash

By

A metals recycling manager for the Ron Hull Group in Rotherham is raising cash for a good cause when he takes part in the Bupa Great Yorkshire Run in Sheffield this weekend.

Sean Haywood has been pounding the highways and byways of the area for the past couple of months to get in shape for the great day. So far he has raised over £800 for the Peter Moorhead Haemodialysis Unit at the Northern General Hospital.

He said: "For several years my father has had to attend the hospital three times a week for kidney dialysis and the people at the hospital have been absolutely brilliant so I decided to do the run and raise the sponsorship as a small gesture of appreciation.

"At first I thought that if I could raise four or five hundred pounds it would be really good but the tally sailed past that in no time. Friends, workmates and the company chiefs have all chipped in. Everyone's been incredibly supportive. I'm over the moon about it."

Nigel Hull, director at the Ron Hull Group, said: "We're delighted that Sean's having a go and raising money for such a worthy cause.

"He has done very well on the sponsorship hasn't he? A hundred and twenty nine pounds and three pence a mile is a seriously good result.

"People are just amazing in terms of the time and effort they will put in to raise money for good causes. We've had people cycle coast to coast, in one case solo, and get involved in all sorts of projects to raise money for charity. I hope Sean and all the other people taking part have a great day."

First formed in 1976 by founder and owner - Ronald Hull - as a six acre site with six employees, the group now has some 30 acres of factory premises and 200 staff within recycling specialists Ron Hull Jnr Limited and Ron Hull Demolition Ltd.
