News: Local organisations offer support for manufacturers

By

Two leading organisations in Rotherham are hosting events to introduce new support programmes for manufacturing companies.

Through The National Metals Technology Centre's (NAMTEC) Manufacturing Forum, Yorkshire and Humber companies can benefit from up to 50% funding to support a broad range of activities leading to business growth and improvement.

Examples of the type of projects include exploring supply chain opportunities in new and existing markets, expert practical and technical support for product and process improvement, analysis of new product opportunities and specific technical and market information.

At a launch event in Rotherham later this month, several local companies who have been assisted through the similar AEM Innovation Fund will talk about their projects and the benefits they have reaped.

Experts from NAMTEC and a number of regional universities and other support bodies will also be on hand to describe the support mechanisms they can offer to businesses.

The free event takes place at the Holiday Inn, Rotherham on October 19.

The Nuclear Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (Nuclear AMRC) in Rotherham is launching a new programme to help manufacturing SMEs in the Yorkshire & Humber region access the opportunities of the nuclear industry.

The £25m Nuclear AMRC is a joint initiative between the University of Sheffield, The University of Manchester, and a consortium of industry partners. It will provide a focal point for the bulk of the UK civil nuclear manufacturing industry supply chain.

They are hosting a number of workshops designed to introduce companies to the massive nuclear supply chain. The UK is embarking on its largest ever investment in new nuclear power stations, with a total value of around £40 billion. A further £2.9 billion a year is being spent to decommission existing nuclear plant.

The one-day Nuclear Supply Opportunities workshops will introduce companies to the nuclear industry, giving them the information they need to make the strategic decision on whether to step into this market.

Workshops are held monthly at the Nuclear AMRC on the Advanced Manufacturing Park in Rotherham.
