News: New stadium pictures released

By

As work progresses on the £17.3m development, the team working hard to get Rotherham United home have released new pictures of how the 12,000 seater stadium will look.

The steel frame of the new Main Stand is the first to be erected. The 21 metre high, two-tier stand is close to the railway line and will include most of the features of a modern stadium from changing rooms, boot rooms and press rooms to refreshment stands, spectator amenities and the club shop.

It will also include hospitality areas including facilities for match-day banqueting, non-match hospitality and conferencing. Corporate and exhibition spaces have been designed to give a total capacity of 600 over the two floors.

The North, East and West stands will accommodate the planned commercial and community space with 4,500 sq m of floorspace has already been approved in seven positions around the perimeter of the building. The club are looking to include a 3,000 sq m of additional space for "commercial" uses.

The roof design is the stadium's iconic feature. The roof sections will be made of solid, highly transparent plastic sheets of polycarbonate in a stepped formation going up to the main stand. These will ensure that the atmosphere from the fans is kept within the stadium and reverberated back onto the pitch, whilst also letting sunlight onto the grass.
