News: Parkgate ranks high amongst UK retail parks

By

Parkgate Shopping in Rotherham has been named amongst the best retail parks in the country in an annual ranking of leading UK retail venues.

Retail consultancy, Javelin Group, has produced their VENUESCORE report which assesses the UK's leading 2,000+ commercial venues based on the presence of leading retailers and brands trading there, and evaluates these retail destinations across a range of attributes including market position, age focus, tourist orientation, fashionability and foodservice.

The rankings are used by retailers, property agents and investors to find the best retail locations.

Parkgate is ranked as third in the list of retail park venues, despite having a market position of less than average.

Owned by British Land, the park is home to over 40 shops, attracting around seven million visitors a year.

The latest openings include a 47,000 sq ft Best Buy unit, a 5,000 sq ft Maplin store, a 53,000 sq ft Currys Megastore, and a 38,000 sq ft ASDA Living store.

The company are also hoping to secure planning permission for a 3,500 sq ft Frankie and Benny's restaurant.

Nearby Meadowhall, also owned by British Land, is ranked third in the list of top shopping centres in the UK.
