News: Beatson Clark to showcase new lightweight beer bottle

By

Rotherham glass packaging manufacturer Beatson Clark will launch a new lightweight beer bottle at the Food & Drink Expo at the Birmingham NEC this month.

The Greasborough Road firm is pioneering lighteighting in glass manufacturing and has reduced the 500ml tapered amber beer bottle to just 285g – almost half the amount of Beatson Clark's original beer bottle, which weighed in at 403g.

The lightweighting process reduces the use of raw materials as well as both manufacturing and transport costs, protecting the environment and conserving valuable resources.

Lynn Sidebottom, marketing director at Beatson Clark: "Following market research we have come up with a new modern design for a lightweight 500ml tapered beer bottle.

"The bottle will be available from stock in the spring and will have a standard crown neck finish suitable for beers, ales or ciders, however it will also be interchangeable with an MCA finish to make it suitable for soft drinks. This new design is also the first tapered beer bottle in Beatson Clark's general sale range.

"This is an exciting development for Beatson Clark and one we think will be very popular with the brewing industry. As glass is infinitely recyclable and totally inert, it is a healthy and sustainable product that helps to minimise the effect of packaging on the environment.

"Making the new design available through the general range, which already includes more than 60 products for the food sector as well as a wide selection of pharmaceutical and beverage products, makes it a more accessible product."

The bottle can also be also be manufactured in white flint and by using bespoke finish moulds, Beatson Clark's clients can create their own unique, customised design by having their company name or logo embossed onto the bottle.

Beatson Clark produce bottles for alcoholic ginger beer, Ginger Joe; St Helier Pear Cider; Crabbies alcoholic ginger beer and unique beers from Scotland's BrewDog Brewery.
