News: Rolls-Royce’s new facility will attract further world class manufacturers to Rotherham

By

Landowner, Harworth Estates, anticipates further leading edge manufacturers being attracted to the Advanced Manufacturing Park (AMP) in Rotherham as construction starts on a new state of the art facility for Rolls-Royce.

The 14,900 sq m Advanced Blade Casting Facility will use cutting edge manufacturing techniques to produce single crystal turbine blades for Rolls-Royce's most modern, high-thrust Trent engines.

Owen Michaelson, managing director at Harworth Estates, said: "Harworth Estates is attracting the world's leading manufacturers to Waverley Advanced Manufacturing Park in order to help deliver a large number of high end jobs to the region.

"This latest Rolls-Royce development adds to the AMP's international reputation. With further land now available, and with the AMP being an integral element of Sheffield City Region's Enterprise Zone, we anticipate that further world class manufacturers will join Rolls-Royce at the AMP."

In May, Harworth Estates, the property arm of UK Coal, confirmed a deal for the sale of 32 acres of land on the AMP to Rolls-Royce worth around £11m.

The facility is one of three Rolls-Royce facilities eventually planned for the AMP. In addition to the blades casting facility Rolls-Royce has identified locations at the AMP for a factory to manufacture, assemble and test components for the proposed next generation of civil nuclear power stations, and a third, smaller factory which could house one of Rolls-Royce's suppliers. Together the facilities are expected to support about 360 skilled jobs.

Rotherham Borough Council has also welcomed the start of work. Councillor Roger Stone, Leader of Rotherham Borough Council, said: "This is a major milestone in the work around the Advanced Manufacturing Park and in the regeneration of Rotherham.

"Having Rolls Royce based here not only brings new jobs but will help our work regionally, nationally and internationally to show that Rotherham can offer the right location with the right local skills base to meet the needs of internationally-renowned companies."
