News: Scott creates ready to wear works of art

By

An enterprising Rotherham-based artist has turned his talents to fashion design in a bid to bring his creations on paper to life.

Scott Nickson, 27, from Kimberworth, has launched his own line of handmade dresses under his artist alias "not6sun."

The collection includes off-the-rack and made-to-measure garments, as well as a commissioning service which allows customers to have a unique dress designed specifically for them.

Scott said: "Art and in particular, drawing, has always been a passion of mine and I stumbled across dressmaking as a byproduct of that.

"I wanted to see if I could bring some of my sketches to life. However, without any dressmaking or even sewing experience, I decided to make each garment as if I was creating a sculpture, carefully constructing each dress bit by bit, rather than working to a pattern like a traditional dressmaker.

"Since then, I've continued to push the boundaries and challenge myself with new ideas, experimenting with materials, colours and textures to create really unique pieces of clothing."
