News: Rotherham amongst UK’s top locations for environment and infrastructure

By

The strength of the inward investment offer in the Rotherham has been confirmed by a recently published report.

Analysis by The Local Futures Group was carried out for its Inward Investment Guide to England, in partnership with the Municipal Journal (MJ). The survey looked at all 335 local authority areas in England, ranking them in relation to key factors important to potential inward investors.

In the Environment and Infrastructure scores, Rotherham was ranked 3rd of the English local authority areas surveyed behind North Tyneside and Stockton, whilst Sheffield also ranked 3rd of English cities.

Factors such as availability of commercial floor space; connectivity; cost base; quality of life; and growth in commercial and industrial floor space were taken into account. A summary score was then created by adding together all of these measures and indexing the scores to the national average.

Commenting on the results Tim O'Connell of Rotherham Investment & Development Office (RiDO), the regeneration arm of Rotherham Council, said: "We have always known that the Rotherham area comprises a strong offer for potential inward investors, with not only the factors highlighted in this report, but also the expertise of our companies (especially those in the advanced manufacturing and materials sectors), and the availability of high level skills.

"This has enabled Rotherham to attract world-class companies such as Rolls-Royce, AESSEAL and Tata Steels, and it is rewarding to have these factors recognised by independent survey."

Ann Allen, Head of Investment & Sector Growth at Creative Sheffield, added: "Sheffield City Region is an attractive place for companies to locate, invest and grow by taking advantage of the large skilled workforce. This has been recognised by the continued investment and success of companies who have chosen the city as their home; such as Sky, HSBC, Firth Rixson, Wandisco and Plusnet."
