News: Century Business Centre is good for business

By

Century Business Centre is showing how strong the spirit of enterprise is in Rotherham after reporting 95 per cent occupancy, which is a return to pre-recession levels, and many of the tenants reporting continued growth.

Operated by Rotherham Investment and Development Office (RIDO), the regeneration arm of the council, the Manvers centre has secured nine new tenants in the past couple of months, offering everything from property management to air conditioning, hose supplies, training services and photography.

Ex-firefighters, Nick Frewin and Chris Clegg, are two entrepreneurs who have recently seized the opportunity to start their own business, after 26 and 30 years respectively with South Yorkshire Fire Service. With support from RiDO, the pair turned their passion for photography into a full time career and made the decision to set up Red Ember Digital at Century Business Centre.

Nick Frewin, co-founder of Red Ember Digital (pictured above, left), said: "The support we have received from RiDO has been fantastic and has really helped us to turn our dream of starting a photography business into a reality. We have worked hard to transform our workshop at Century Business Centre into a photography studio and we are already really busy with lots of bookings.

"As a start up business, having access to mentoring and support from RiDO has been invaluable and the easy-in, easy-out contract has allowed us to get our own premises, without having to enter into a long term commitment."

Amanda Parris, business centre manager for RiDO, said: "It is fantastic to see so many local people pursuing their dreams of starting their own businesses. More and more businesses are recognising the benefits of being located in our business centres and our success rate for businesses that survive those crucial first three years is over 84%, which is well above the national average of 71%."

Heidi and Edward Galvin started their property management company from home and recently made the decision to move into dedicated offices at Century.

Heidi Galvin of E Galvin Property Services said: "Moving into the offices at Century Business Centre has already helped us to win new business, thanks to our professional image and the administration and reception support provided by RiDO. The location is excellent as we have easy access to the motorway and the offices are reasonably priced, which has allowed us to benefit from our own premises at a relatively early stage in the business."

Other new businesses include MGM Training Academy Ltd, Antler Air Systems Ltd, Otto Simon Ltd, Instant Equity Properties Ltd and Directhoses Ltd.

Many businesses in RiDO's Business Centres and in the Rotherham area are benefiting from RiDO's Growth and Prosperity in Rotherham (Soft Landing Zone) project. With funding from the European Regional Development Fund, this aims to assist Rotherham companies in accessing international markets and also helps foreign inward investors who choose to locate to RiDO's business centres.
