News: Capita gets Inmotion

By

Capita, the UK's leading outsourcing company, has been taking part in a new initiative that encourages employees to leave their car at home in return for up to 28 days' free travel on the county's buses, trains and trams.

Delivered by Inmotion!, a partnership between South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive (SYPTE), Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield Councils, the Busboost scheme aims to make the journey to work simpler, easier or even healthier.

Capita, which operates a customer management site in Dearne Valley, has recently seen 240 staff sign up to the free Busboost scheme. 63% of Capita employees that took part said they will continue to use public transport for most or part of their journey to and from work, whilst also reporting other benefits including reduced stress levels and quicker journey times compared to driving.

Capita employee, Brogan Curtis (pictured), was delighted with the benefits of Busboost. She said: "After I took part in the free trial I sold my car and now use the bus regularly to get to and from work."

Chris Broadhead, safety, health & environment manager at Capita, added: "Many of our employees travel to work from different areas such as Barnsley, Pontefract, Rotherham, and Sheffield. With limited car parking spaces available we wanted to make people aware of the alternative travel options available.

"As a business, we take our employees' health and wellbeing seriously and the Busboost initiative has been a resounding success for the employees taking part. It was really easy to get involved and I would encourage other businesses to give it a go."

The Inmotion! project is delivered through South Yorkshire's £24.6m Local Sustainable Transport Fund and the Busboost offer applies to certain areas in Don Valley, Dearne Valley, Barnsley and Doncaster.

Nigel Cairns, deputy head of customer experience at SYPTE, said: "We are delighted that the Inmotion! project and the Busboost scheme is providing a range of sustainable transport options that are already delivering benefits for employees.

"Our innovative support, training and advice is tailored to business needs. Through better provision of sustainable transport, walking and cycling in South Yorkshire, Inmotion! aims to widen the options available for people getting to work and remove the barriers that can prevent access to employment, education and training."
