News: Kite Packaging flying high

By

Fast growing packaging suppliers, Kite Packaging has invested £1.5m in new premises in Rotherham.

Founded in 2001, the employee-owned firm is headquarted in Coventry and supplies a range of packaging products as well as specialising in the design and distribution of bespoke packaging solutions for large clients. Now with seven branches, it has grown to become one of the largest packaging distributors in the UK market.

Kite's Northern operation in Sheffield has expanded into new premises due to a 50% growth in the number of employees. The new building at Aldwarke boasts 30,000 sq ft of space – 10,000 more than the previous location.

A spokesperson for Kite said: "The acquisition represents a £1.5m investment for Kite, and is yet another indicator of our rapid expansion in the packaging industry."

The relocation has seen a new graduate joining the Kite graduate scheme, and an apprentice joining the distribution team. The company expects that this is just the beginning of the branch's growth and hopes to welcome even more new recruits in 2014.

The firm has celebrated record growth and being owned by the employees means that it can invest in the business. Recent investments include the expansion of two branches in Coventry and Sheffield, an investment that totals £5m.

Aldwarke Wharf Business Park is home to companies such as Candlelight Products, Philford Design Engineers and Envelopemaster. Built speculatively on former opencast land, the developers, E.V Waddington Ltd has recently applied for planning permission for the next phase of the park with units 16 and 17 totalling a further 112,000 sq ft.
