News: Whirlowdale expands with new offices and distribution centre

Whirlowdale Trading Co Ltd, one of the UK's leading suppliers of pallet and transit packet solutions, has expanded into new office accommodation close to its main depot in Rotherham.

The family owned business has been trading for over 35 years and specialises in the supply of new and reconditioned panels to the food, retail, manufacturing, construction and pharmaceutical sectors. It began life as a solution to what to do with unwanted pallets in the food wholesale business and has grown into the UK's largest trader of used pallets.

Operating from its current three acre site on Canklow Meadows Industrial Estate, Whirlowdale is continually looking to grow and further establish themselves as the market leaders in pallet solutions.

Office staff have recently moved to a high-tech office block on Bawtry Road that was previously home to MSSR, which specialised in building petrol forecourts and ancillary services nationwide, before it went into administration in 2014.

Commercial property agents, Eddidsons confirmed that: "Our agency team has sold this modern, detached office block. The property, extending to 3,268 sq ft was sold off an asking price of £200,000 to a private company on behalf of the administrators."

Whirlowdale said that the office block has ample space for the growing team and added that it has been decorated with recycled material to demonstrate the company ethos.

Andrew Pearce, who took on the CEO role from founding father, Roy in 2009, aims to double Whirlowdale's size within the next few years.

As part of the expansion, which includes a growing export business, pallet operations have been expanded here in Yorkshire, with the acquisition of a well-established Castleford pallet dealer, SKH Pallets.

The acquisition of SKH Pallets has increased the number of Whirlowdale distribution centres to nine. The Castleford site is a dual operation site as they have the machinery to produce new pallets, whilst also having the capacity to repair and redistribute reconditioned pallets.
