News: Magna ready for inspiring businesses

By

The Magna Science Adventure Centre is getting ready to host the Inspiring Yorkshire Business event next week - the Rotherham venue's very own business networking exhibition.

Set in the former Templeborough steelworks, Magna is a family attraction with more than 100 hands-on exhibits. Millions of pounds have been invested in conference facilities at the centre which plays host to nationally important music events, boxing, corporate launches and award ceremonies.

The Big Hall will host the event on February 18 that is sponsored by the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB). More than 50 businesses have already signed up to exhibit, including CQ Strategic Marketing, Santander, Dearne Valley College, IT Desk and RiDO.

The event will also involve expert speakers from the likes of Charlie Grayson, senior business consultant at Rotherham College, well known management consultant Andy Hanselman, and a representative from the FSB.

Sheffield City Region (SCR) will host a Business Opportunities Hub at the event, showing companies how they can tap into contracts being offered within the region. Contract opportunities can range from small to large in size, so there is something for everyone.

On the day, companies can discover more about upcoming major projects such as British energy company SSE's Ferrybridge Multifuels 2 project in West Yorkshire and others.

The hub has been put together by the Sheffield City Region Tata taskforce with support from RiDO (Rotherham Investment and Development Office). The taskforce was recently set up to deliver additional support to supply chain businesses in the region and boost trade locally following Tata’s decision to downsize its operations.

The hub may be of particular interest to organisations which supply products and services to markets including construction, automotive, packaging, rail, lifting and excavating, energy and power and aerospace, but a range of contract opportunities are available.

John Silker, chief executive at Magna, said: "It's great to have such a wide variety of businesses attending the event. All of the businesses on site will be available to give advice on several areas, including legal advice, business start-up advice and support, IT support and advice on how to grow your business.

"The speakers who are turning up are brilliant and I'm sure they'll contribute to what will be a great event."
