The Chair of the Sheffield City Region (SCR) Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP), Sir Nigel Knowles has called on local businesses to secure a place on the delegation to MIPIM, in London in October 2016 and in Cannes in March 2017, to promote the economic investment opportunities across the region.
MIPIM UK is the UK's largest exhibition and conference for property professionals. Taking place at Olympia in London on October 19-21, it provides a market place for UK players and international investors to meet, discuss projects and opportunities and do business. It builds on the MIPIM conference, the world's premier real estate event, held each year in Cannes.
Representatives said that the SCR delegation will "work together to exploit every chance to demonstrate the strength of the region's straightforward and pragmatic approach to economic regeneration, business development and social improvement as it seeks to build, resource and support vibrant communities."

LEPs are the Government's model to promote economic development and are led by the private sector. A proposed devolution deal with the Government includes a new gain share deal within an envelope of £30m a year for 30 years – giving the SCR the power to use new funding to boost local growth and invest in local manufacturing and innovation.
Sir Nigel Knowles, chair of the Sheffield City Region LEP, said: "Never before has the Sheffield City Region LEP had such a unique opportunity to exhibit its real potential on the world stage. The guaranteed pot of money for the next three decades, and the growing influence of the Northern Powerhouse agenda, enables the Sheffield City Region LEP to show its well-founded confidence as the place to do business.
"Our city region has an economy of £31 billion and is home to 52,000 businesses, including almost 700 foreign-owned companies. It is time to make the world aware of the wealth of opportunity here and MIPIM is a perfect showcase."
The delegation of local business leaders from SCR will attend the 2016 MIPIM event in London followed by the principle MIPIM event France in March 2017. The LEP is looking for ambitious businesses to join their delegation and take advantage of the opportunities offered by these high-profile events.
The LEP has its own inward investment team that targets potential investors across the UK and overseas in the LEP's priority sectors, as well as promoting the city region's Enterprise Zone. The team works alongside other organisations across the whole of the SCR, including the existing business support agencies of the local authorities, private sector partners, the chambers and universities.
The SCR MIPIM UK programme will showcase key developments from across the city region including the Sheffield-Rotherham Advanced Manufacturing Innovation District (AMID). Recognising that high value manufacturing can be key to driving innovation, productivity and exports, civic leaders have committed to the idea of "supercharging" the areas of advanced manufacturing in the Sheffield-Rotherham Economic Corridor. Based around the Advanced Manufacturing Park (AMP) in Rotherham and surrounding Enterprise Zone, the aim is to develop Europe's largest research-led advanced manufacturing cluster.
