By

When the winter weather sets in, you can’t beat a cosy pub, can you? For Rotherham’s locals who are keen to unwind after a tough day in the office or on site, there are some excellent watering holes to frequent in the winter months. Many pubs are also desperate for the custom, with public houses up and down the country struggling in 2025.

Be it before a Rotherham United game or after a long hike, these pubs are hubs of the community where people gather. Also serving up delicious grub and some fine local ales, there are some top locations in the market town. From venues steeped in history to more modern locations, there certainly isn’t a shortage of warm and welcoming venues that are keen to bring more pub-goers in through their doors in the coming months. Below, we highlight some of them.

The Golden Ball

For pub-goers who want to dance the night away or relax in front of a log fire, The Golden Ball is hard to ignore. This country pub is a real treat thanks to its distinctive look and feel, with the building itself clearly being steeped in history. Alongside the venue’s attractive design, visitors can devour some gorgeous food and drink in the pub’s restaurant. A dog-friendly environment that is known to look after owners and their canine chums on a weekend, The Golden Ball deserves your custom.

Marquis

If you’re desperate to find a delicious carvery for the family, then Marquis is the pub for you. Additionally, this top-notch pub also offers an inviting atmosphere thanks to its family feel, there’s a mouth-watering selection of beverages to sample, and its charming Rawmarsh location is another undoubted selling point. Also featuring a soft play area and a large beer garden you can sit in if it isn’t too cold outside, Marquis is a superb pub.

Sitwell Arms

While the Sitwell Arms’ beer garden is probably worth avoiding this winter, it’s still a wonderful venue to experience for a few hours. Offering a diverse range of drinks and some warming food, this Whiston-based pub has a lot of plus points. It’s particularly popular with walkers given its stunning views, especially since its fairly recent refurbishment. Overall, the Sitwell Arms is a lovely pub to experience for a pint or two.

The Homestead

Having a reputation for offering quality food and drink, The Homestead is a local pub with top service. Pub food doesn’t always deliver, but The Homestead is one of many Rotherham public houses that specialises in it.

Three Horse Shoes

A pub in the heart of the community, Three Horse Shoes is one of the finest pubs in the town. Whether you want to sink a refreshing pint while playing online blackjack in the corner or you’re keen to attend to a hearty breakfast before your big day out, this local favourite has you covered. Also serving a large range of drinks in a historical venue with plenty of charm, this cosy spot is definitely one of the finest places to be in Rotherham on a cold winter’s day.

Cutlers Arms
For a night out after a big win for the Millers, the Cutlers Arms definitely stands out. Some of the town’s biggest bands have played there, while it’s also known to have a vibrant atmosphere on an average weekend. While it doesn’t accept reservations, you should still be able to get a seat at one of the Cutlers Arms’ range of tables. However, on a Friday and Saturday night, you should be prepared to stand and rock out to some talented local musicians.
