News: Shell deal for innovative Rotherham firm

By

Innovative Rotherham firm, Tan Delta Systems, has secured a new contract with Shell, the multinational oil and gas company.

Based at Dinnington, Tan Delta provides equipment monitoring technologies and solutions that use real time oil analysis to enable material reductions in maintenance costs, improve reliability and reduce carbon footprint.

Shell Marine Products Singapore is part of the firm's growing customer base of blue-chip multinationals and equipment operators.

The new order, worth approximately £120,000, relates to systems that are expected to be deployed on a range of vessels to monitor various critical pieces of equipment such as auxiliary engines, propulsion engines and other support systems. It targets deployment on thousands of vessels in the coming years.

Tan Delta real time oil sensor solutions use sensing technology to analyse oil in working equipment in real time at a molecular level, enabling accurate tracking of oil condition to end of life, and detection of unexpected issues such as contamination or other internal and unseen equipment issues which may lead to bigger problems and or failures in the future.

In its interim results for the six months ended 30 June 2025, Tan Delta bosses warned that the adoption of its solutions by customers is taking considerably longer than expected resulting in disappointing financial results.

The report noted that there was 216 distributors, 17 active trials and visible forward sales opportunities worth approximately £64m but with revenue at £0.5m for the six months (down from £0.7m in the same period the previous year), the company posted a loss before tax of £0.8m.

Chris Greenwood, Tan Delta CEO said: "We have been building a long-term relationship with the SHELL for several years to explore how they and their customers can benefit from Tan Delta real time oil condition monitoring technologies and products. As a new disruptive technology and concept, it has taken some time to introduce this to a generally conservative industrial and commercial market, but as we recently advised in our Annual Report, whilst the sales cycle remains long, I expect the growth in user references to help with market confidence. This order, whilst small in the context of the overall commercial marine market segment, is a good example of this."

Other recent deals include Fuchs SE, one of the world's largest lubricant distributors and a distributor agreement with Core Arabia in Saudi Arabia.

News: Rotherham firm working in partnership with four of the world's leading engine manufacturers

By

Innovative Rotherham firm, Tan Delta Systems, has reported on a frustrating financial year but say that the strategic groundwork is being laid with a tenfold increase in active trials.

Based at Dinnington, Tan Delta provides equipment monitoring technologies and solutions that use real time oil analysis to enable material reductions in maintenance costs, improve reliability and reduce carbon footprint. Tan Delta currently supplies a growing customer base of blue-chip multinationals and equipment operators.

The company joined the stock exchange in 2023, raising approximately £6m to be used for further expansion.

For the twelve months ended 31 December 2024, revenue of £1.22m was down 16% on the previous year. Chief exec Chris Greenwood said that this was primarily due to "extended timelines required to mature high-value customer opportunities, reflecting both the complexity and potential scale of our pipeline."

Tan Delta was co-founded in 2007 by Greenwood to develop the concept of real time oil condition analysis and to provide equipment operators with greater insight on the health and status of their equipment, thus allowing more efficient equipment operation.

Operators in a variety of industries, including power generation, mining, oil/gas and shipping, can reduce oil consumption by ensuring oil is not changed before it has reached the end of its life, and reduce breakdowns and associated costs by detecting issues before damage or failure occurs.

Tan Delta now has over 20 active trials and a commercial pipeline exceeding £35m, a tenfold increase from the end of 2023.

Greenwood added: "Our challenge has not been a lack of opportunity - in fact, the scale and quality of engagements in our pipeline continue to grow. Conversion of trials to order and the time that takes has been frustrating at times and we have taken numerous steps in our customer engagement processes to standardise our approach to planning and executing trials to address this from which we are already seeing very early positive signs. Much of this is linked to the larger size and scale opportunities now being seen."

Highlights for the year include the signing of two new distribution agreements in the Middle East, growing the regional pipeline from zero to over £14m. Tan Delta also said that it was now working in active collaboration with four of the world's seven major engine manufacturers.

Engagements have been made with a global logistics firm monitoring tens of thousands of assets, two Middle East rental companies (each with over 2,000 fleet assets), and a UK utility trial monitoring critical gearboxes with potential to scale. Additionally, Tan Delta is collaborating with several major engine OEMs on multiple projects across marine and power generation applications.

With newly developed advanced AI analytics, predictive maintenance capabilities, and a cloud-based platform, Tan Delta aims to enable the transition from a sensor provider to a data-driven solutions business.

One new product is a new sensor for water-based fluids such as coolant, driven by demand from a major engine OEM who has co-funded the project.

Simon Tucker, chairman of Tan Delta, said: ""With minimal marketing, the company enjoys significant interest in its real time oil analysis based equipment monitoring solutions. The business enjoys a fundamental base for its position in the market which is its unique core technology and, after several years supplying small numbers to some notable entities such as SHELL, all important credibility. It has developed a focused pipeline of sales opportunities where and is now supporting multiple evaluations that range from the world's largest online retailer who operates hundreds of thousands of gearboxes, to operators of power generators across the middle east. The opportunity is very significant.

"By their nature the decision and planning to adopt Tan Delta and integrate it into their maintenance and operating plans are significant and long term commitments which require careful planning which takes time to come to fruition and a conversion into sale contracts that realise a customer with repeat sales for many years into the future. This is the reason for the build-up of the sales pipeline and the relatively slow conversion. Given the significant size of some of our opportunities, anyone of which is transformational for the business, the Board has actively guided the management team to focus on these to minimise closure times, before seeking to expand further, and we expect to start to see this happening in the near future."

News: Rotherham business joins stock exchange, raises £6m

By

Innovative Rotherham firm, Tan Delta Systems, is toasting a successful launch on to the stock exchange which has raised approximately £6m to be used for further expansion.

With Zeus Capital acting as Nominated Adviser and Sole Broker, an Initial Public Offering (IPO) and admission to AIM, raised £6m through the sale of shares, achieving a market capitalisation of £19m. Zeus said it was one of the largest AIM IPOs in 2023 to date.

The deal represents the next phase of Tan Delta’s growth strategy as a market leading, real-time equipment monitoring and data analytics business, with proceeds from the primary raise supporting the Company’s growth and expansion plans.

Chris Greenwood, CEO of Tan Delta, said: "An incredibly proud moment for me, not only in achieving a successful flotation but having the exciting opportunity to now drive the business through its next phase of accelerated growth. None of this would have been possible without the hard work and dedication from all of the Tan Delta team and the continuing support given to us by our early investors.

"Innovation continues to be alive and kicking in the UK and I hope that we can be seen as an example to budding entrepreneurs as to what can be achieved. A huge thank you to Zeus for their efforts in securing a great deal for the business and for the new investors, without their relentless efforts we would not have successfully navigated the whole IPO process."

Following a period of R&D and trials, in 2020 the company’s first commercial sensor (OQSx-G2) entered volume production. Production is fully outsourced to a specialist contract manufacturer.

Admission documents show that Tan Delta has an initial foothold in the $200 billion global sensor market with an innovative and differentiated monitoring solution based on real time oil analysis and analytics, adding: "Despite limited sales and marketing to date, the company has successfully sold its products and services to a range of blue-chip customers including Shell, Aggreko and Schlumberger."

Tan Delta has generated positive profit after tax in each of the last three financial years, despite the challenges of COVID-19 and a global semi-conducter shortage. Turnover for the 2022 financial year was £1.575m.

Proceeds of the placing will be used for sales and marketing, product development and general working capital purposes.

Having primarily targeted large commercial and industrial equipment market segments, a new sensor product (G2-IM), currently at the concept stage but based upon the same core technology, will be developed which will be suitable for smaller scale, high volume applications in the light commercial, industrial and automotive segments.

The admission document adds: "The net proceeds of the Placing of New Shares will enable Tan Delta to significantly expand its sales and marketing to meet the support and expansion expectations of current customers as well as to attract new customers. Furthermore, it will enable the Company to increase its production capacity and accelerate new product and technology development."
