News: Rotherham Football Centre goes up for auction

By

The recently opened Rotherham Football Centre at Eastwood is going under the hammer at auction later this month.

An empty 75,000 sq ft commercial unit was given a new lease of life as a local sports facility including four large 5-a-side football pitches using FIFA-approved artificial turf, cricket practice nets and changing facilities.

Langtree's Chesterwood unit was marketed for some time at much reduced rates, without receiving interest from companies for use as an industrial site. Previously used by KP Nuts and Asda, the warehouse was taken on a ten year lease by three business partners who run pharmacy company IBI Healthcare. The football centre opened in March and is being run as a not-for-profit organisation.

Bilal Nazir, management committee member at the centre, said: "When we saw the Chesterwood unit, we realised it was the perfect venue for our centre. The sheer size allows us to have the football pitches we originally planned, as well as additional training facilities. Eventually we plan to install a gym on the first floor to cater for more kinds of sport training needs.

"Our aim through Rotherham Football Centre is not just to provide facilities but offer competitive league matches, corporate tournaments, and assistance for the under-privileged and disabled with the belief that everyone has the right to play sport."

Helen Gordon, regional manager at Langtree, added: "The idea behind Rotherham Football Centre comes from a good place and we are thrilled we have been able to help set up the premises needed to make the centre happen. This is a much-needed facility in the area and there is already a buzz about the difference it will make to those who want to partake in sports."

Now Langtree has put the property up for auction with Acuitus in London later this month and it has been given a guide price of £395,000.

7 Effingham Street in Rotherham town centre, currently let to Carphone Warehouse, is also listed for sale at the same auction. With rent at £16,750 per annum exclusive, it has a guide price of £150,000.
