News: South Yorkshire set to be "the next big thing"

By

A national report points to South Yorkshire being "the next big thing" for the distribution industry. Lambert Smith Hampton's (LSH) new National Industrial and Distribution Report 2008 highlights that the continued good demand for larger distribution properties both from retailers and third-party logistics operators is especially true in the regional distribution centres such as South Yorkshire. The report highlights that this can be attributed to the good transport connections and the relative availability and cost of land and labour. In addition, the degree to which councils are open to industrial development creates a growing number of speculative developments. "The M1-M18 Corridor remains one of the prime distribution locations within the UK due to the fact that it sits on the main north-south and east-west axis offering access to deep-sea container ports at Immingham, Hull and Grimsby, and substantial rail infrastructure." Rotherham developments including Brookfields Park, Magna 34 and Vector 31 are all referenced in the report. Retailer, Next has taken 1.1m sq ft at Brookfields Park for their newest UK distribution centre.
