News: Orange to overhaul UK operations

By

The Guardian reports on plans outlined by the new Chief Executive of telecom company, Orange which could benefit Rotherham and the UK. Tom Alexander wants his company to be the UK's largest mobile phone operator by 2012 and plans cut 450 middle management jobs and hire an extra 500 people in its call centres and stores. Orange's customer care centre is based in Manvers in Rotherham and Alexander told The Guardian: "Orange had a strategy to offshore the vast majority, if not all, its call centres and we have stopped that. "We got good service from the call centres in India, but we believe we can have brilliant service from our UK-based call centres. That is what Orange should be, it should be brilliant."
