News: Rotherham's teenage talent

By

Anastasia Weiner of The Business Desk writes an interesting piece on youth enterprise. Highlighting that levels of entrepreneurship among 18-24-year-olds in Yorkshire and Humberside are higher than the national average (5.1% compared with 3.7%) and discussing Yorkshire Forward's £2.5m "Enterprising Yorkshire" scheme, she uses an interesting case study of Rotherham young entrepreneur, Hayley Edge. Starting her own business at the age of 16, Hayley discusses her enthusiasm for business, being able to get stuck in, develop ideas, take risks and be in control. Hayley discusses her involvement in the Young Chamber and enterprise education in the borough: "I’ve been learning in Rotherham for a full year now, and my opinion of Yorkshire has changed completely. I could happily live here for the rest of my life. The education system has a fuller and more varied after school curriculum." Hayley runs the homemade bath products business, Soaps, Suds & Salts and was one of the first recipients of the Rotherham Chamber of Commerce Young Athenian Awards. She has also written for Yorkshire Forward’s pamphlet "The Ambitions & Aspirations of Young People in Yorkshire & Humber."
